TEDxUniHeidelberg is an independent event licensed by the non-profit organisation TED. On this website, we would like to talk about our theme “Illuminating Absurdity” and introduce you to our motivated team and inspiring speakers! For those of you who are not familiar with TED, we have some introductory videos to explain the concept of “ideas worth spreading”. Together with TEDxHeidelberg, TEDxUniMannheim and TEDxDHBWMannheim we work in the Rhein-Neckar area to bring leading experts and thinkers to our cities to inspire a community of people enthused by new ideas!
TED is a nonprofit organization devoted to Ideas Worth Spreading. Started as a four-day conference in California 30 years ago, TED has grown to support its mission with multiple initiatives. The two annual TED Conferences invite the world's leading thinkers and doers to speak for 18 minutes or less. Many of these talks are then made available, free, at TED.com. TED speakers have included Bill Gates, Jane Goodall, Elizabeth Gilbert, Sir Richard Branson, Nandan Nilekani, Philippe Starck, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Sal Khan and Daniel Kahneman ...more
In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TED has created a program called TEDx. TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. Our event is called TEDxUniHeidelberg, where x = independently organized TED event. At our TEDxUniHeidelberg event, TEDTalks video and live speakers will combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events, including ours, are self-organized. Visit the TED webiste and find out more.
We are a group of students at Heidelberg University who love TEDTalks! It’s our goal to create a community in Heidelberg in the spirit of TED that organizes events and hosts panels and discussion on all kinds of topics. We want to stimulate an environment where students can widen their horizons, discover great ideas right here at their own university! Get to know us!
“If at first the idea is not absurd, then there is no hope for it.” – Albert Einstein
Our world is difficult to understand. It is not black and white, and it cannot be saved by just one project or idea. No one can grasp the meaning of the good, the bad, or everything in between. Maybe our world is absurd. But what does absurd mean? Something far from common sense – but what is common sense? What is a norm, a rule, a moral, and what roles do they play in understanding the world? Through new and inspiring ideas, we want to offer our participants an atypical view of their world. We would like to offer encouraging talks and meaningful discussions to help question and reflect our everyday lives, beliefs, and opinions.
TEDxUniHeidelberg is proud to present the venue for our event on the 1st of July 2017: The premises of the Marsilius Kolleg, which is a core institution of the University of Heidelberg. We are very excited about this cooperation, as the Marsilius Kolleg is dedicated to connecting different disciplines (natural sciences, life sciences, liberal arts, social sciences, and law) with the purpose of developing innovative solutions for contemporary issues. This institute recognizes the value of interdisciplinary and intergenerational discussion, and encourages this by hosting topical events and offering interesting, extracurricular courses.
